Meet maker Isabelle Benoit, owner of apparel company Bullet Blues, based in Coral Springs, FL.
MO: Brief overview of your company?
Bullet Blues: Our focus at Bullet Blues is to offer quality American made products. We offer American style with a European flair, which combines comfort, fashion and sophistication. Our collection includes tops, jeans and dresses which are versatile and can be as casual or dressy as you like.
After becoming an American citizen, I reflected on when I had visited the American Cemetery Memorial in Normandy, France. I remembered how moved I was when I learned about the sacrifices that were made by these brave American soldiers. I wanted to do something to honor their bravery and that of the soldiers which are protecting our freedoms today.
As a designer, I thought the best way to do that was to create great American clothes using premium American materials. The name, Bullet Blues is to help people remember the courage and the “bullets” it took to protect our freedoms.
MO: When did you feel like you were a “real company”?
BB: When I started hiring people to help me out with the company. My “big break” was when I started getting orders and getting good feedback from customers.
MO: What aspect of your job do you love?
BB: I love designing new products.
MO: Do you, yourself make your products or do you have factories that you work with?
BB: I work with a great company in Los Angeles for production, and source the denim from Cone Mills in NC, and my rivets and buttons are custom made in Kentucky.
MO: What is your favorite Made in USA product?
BB: I love handbags – you can never get enough – Shana Luther makes handbags with amazing designs and craftsmanship. She started her business right around the time that Bullet Blues did, too.
MO: Favorite place in America?
BB: I love the whole country!
Thanks Isabelle for taking the time to talk to us, and for making beautiful jeans in the US.
